MATH

  6th Grade Syllabus
We’re looking forward to an exciting year with your son or daughter as we discover new things and review the math world together. There are a few important things we want to highlight for you:
  • Homework- Homework will be assigned daily Monday through Friday. The homework should be done daily and saved. It will be checked every day for completion. Any work missed when absent should be made up. Work must be done in pencil, work shown, and have a complete heading for credit.
  • Guided study – When homework is checked daily for completion, work must be shown and every problem attempted. If the homework is not complete, guided study will be assigned THAT day.
  • Notebooks – In the math section of their 3 ring-binder, the students should keep their math papers for each unit in sequential order.
  • Test and Quizzes –Tests or quizzes will be given on Fridays. You can help your son or daughter study by going over everything in their binder: notes, warm-ups, corrected homework, and review problems.

  • Calculator use: Every student is required to purchase their own calculator that they should have in their backpack at all times. The calculator should be a basic 4-function calculator (+, -, x, ÷) with square root. No scientific calculators, fraction calculators, or graphing calculators will be allowed. The students will be instructed as to when calculator use is appropriate.
  • Multiplication tables: The students MUST know their multiplication tables to be successful in mathematics. We will be testing them EVERY week until they can pass a 5-minute test of 100 problems using the digits 1 – 12. 90% correct is considered passing.
  • Absenteeism: All work missed when absent must be made up. Students can contact one of their study buddies to find out the assignment from home. They can also check our homework hotline after 4PM. When a student returns from an absence, he/she can find the daily warm-up and notes. Both the warm-up and notes must be made up and included on his/her make-up work.
  • Parent communication: You can E-mail us by contacting the school web page and clicking on staff. Please encourage your son or daughter to seek out information they need on their own as much as possible. You will receive a progress report every 6 weeks. You can monitor your child’s progress in the class in between progress reports by checking their notebooks for daily work, and by looking over tests as they are returned. If you have not seen a test for a few weeks you should ask your son or daughter for one.
