*The schedules that students pick up on August 31st and September 1st are draft schedules. Students will be required to pick up a finalized schedule on the first day of school before school on September 7th on the front patios. These finalized schedules will be printed on goldenrod paper so that teachers can easily check schedules during classes. Students may not go to class without this finalized goldenrod schedule.
Class Assignments: Our goal is to balance all classes and assignments by the end of the third week of school. Concerns regarding classes should be first addressed in writing to your grade level counselor:
Every effort is made to accurately schedule students over the summer. The ONLY changes that will be made are for academic reasons or to balance classes. Some schedule changes will be inevitable. Although this sometimes causes initial upset, we have learned from past experience that children quickly adapt to a new schedule. Schedules will be final at the end of the third week of school, and will remain in place the rest of the school year. You are invited to meet the teachers and learn about your child’s learning at Back to School Night on the evening of September 16th at 6:30pm.
Summer Reading Requirement: Our District has a required summer reading list for all students entering grades 6‑12. It was distributed to all students in June. If you need a summer reading list, you can obtain one on the web at www.lincoln.smmusd.org under “Announcements.” It is important that your child take this reading seriously, as it reinforces and strengthens skills. Teachers will be requiring follow-up work in September.
Finally, as we move into the school year, please remember how important it is to be actively involved in the education of your child. Show your child you care by attending school functions, joining our PTSA and attending its programs. During the middle school years, students need the guidance and support of parents and adults even when they claim they know everything and don't need any help. Give your child the message that school is important and that you intend to be actively involved.
We look forward to seeing you in September!
